MBDA Project Genesis

To source, plan & deliver furniture for MBDA’s new site in Bolton.

Overview

In 2016, MBDA opened a new state of the art manufacturing facility in Bolton and selected Office Depot to source, provide and install their furniture. We devised a solution that reduced MBDA’s costs and maintained product quality levels. We worked with our suppliers to provide sample products and delivered on small orders to demonstrate our abilities. This resulted in Office Depot supplying 300 chairs and tables for the MBDA office and later that year we secured the opportunity to furnish their new Bolton facility. We began by installing a pilot workstation at one of their current sites and received feedback from MBDA on improvements and alterations. This allowed us to meet tight timescales with a pre-approved MBDA workstation and furniture solution for the new site.

Background

MBDA is a missiles and missile systems world-class leader with a strong presence across Europe and in the United States of America. The merger of three prestigious companies in December 2001 resulted in MBDA’s establishment; the French Aérospatiale-Matra Missiles; the Italian Alenia Marconi Systems and the British Matra BAE Dynamics. With this backing and expertise, they have uniquely positioned themselves as Europe’s only group designing and producing a range of missile solutions for all three branches of the armed forces – Land, Sea and Air.

The Challenge

Supporting MBDA’s new site in Bolton posed two key challenges:

  • MBDA had three sites established in the UK with Bolton being their fourth. As such, they had strict requirements to maintain consistency and expected us to use only the Tangent Neo furniture range. It was essential that Account Managers and Furniture Specialists used our strong vendor relationship to deliver a customer-focussed solution that was within budget, consistent and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Delivering an effective solution first time was crucial as MBDA required phase one of implementation to begin within four weeks of contract commencement. This required close collaboration and effective communication between Office Depot and MBDA’s project team.

Result

To ensure MBDA’s project met their unique specification requirements a full Project Team was established. The Project Team was responsible for coordinating all aspects of the service from procurement to installation. We installed pilot workstations, and arranged a ‘live drag and drop’ session to ensure CAD designs and 3D renders were compliant. This resulted in all deliveries being timely, as expected and sourced from Tangent Neo’s furniture range.

Office Depot and MBDA had a clear strategy to maximise communication, coordinate effectively and deliver the project on time. Our robust planning processes and strong communication links enabled us to meet our deadlines. This ensured the implementation phase began within the specified four-week deadline.

MBDA’s feedback is highly positive and they are particularly pleased with our project management approach, the quality of furniture and our ability to meet strict deadline requirements.

We are extremely pleased with how well the project has been managed, the install team & of course the furniture
